A fire broke out in the main steel plant near Furnace No. 2, causing extensive damage to the steel structural members in the vicinity of the fire. The furnace had to be shut down completely.
“ARE” was invited to investigate the condition of the steel structural elements, immediately. In response, ARE mobilised the site investigation team and undertook a visual investigation, sampling and destructive and non-destructive testing of the steel columns, girders and concrete walls. ARE also undertook structural calculations to check the structural adequacy of the fire damaged structural elements, and the temporary structural strengthening works undertaken by HADEED. The initial recommendations for the remedial works were given within 12 hrs following the investigation, and the final recommendations were given after undertaking detailed calculations within a month after the site activities.
