2 RAM Study for East Region Manufacturing

ARE were awarded by Saudi Aramco, to provide professional services pertaining to east region manufacturing facilities which include Jumayiah (JNGLFD), Ras Tanura Refinery (RTR) & Riyadh Refinery Department (RRD). The RAM study for ERM facilities shall include the following:

  • ERM RAM Study Kick of Meeting
  • ERM individual RAM model operation review with operational failures and consequence analysis for individual facilities.
  • Developing the individual RAM models for each of ERM processing facilities, review and validation of the prepared individual models.
  • Developing the integrated RAM models for all of ERM operating facilities, review and validation of the prepared integrated models.

4 Al Babtain Office Building, Khobar

5 Integrity RAM Study of PD & T Facilities

ARE were awarded by Saudi Aramco, to provide professional services pertaining to Northern Area Pipeline Department, Southern Area Pipeline Department, East West Area Pipeline Department, Western Region Dist. Department in KSA. The objective of the project is to identify critical points during the operation phase and to suggest if necessary remedial actions in order to increase the availability. The detailed failure mode, effects and criticality analysis is suitable approach on equipment spare parts, documentation, maintenance procedures and related logistic arrangements. Control systems, equipment, rotating equipment (including their associated auxiliary components) shall be analysed (considering acceptable probability rate) to ensure that the reliability of the facility is not adversely impacted by the failure consequence of a given type of failure shall be an important factor for such an analysis. The RAM Study as a minimum shall identify:

  • Optimum design configuration for each Design Case sensitivity with associated cost, where possible.
  • Identification of areas for improvement with recommendations to mitigate issues.
  • Sparing Philosophy.
  • Maintenance strategy for Predictive, preventative and breakdown maintenance.

7 Technical Support Services for Customization Management

    116 HADEED, Fire Damage in Furnace No. 2 – Investigation

    A fire broke out in the main steel plant near Furnace No. 2, causing extensive damage to the steel structural members in the vicinity of the fire. The furnace had to be shut down completely.

    “ARE” was invited to investigate the condition of the steel structural elements, immediately. In response, ARE mobilised the site investigation team and undertook a visual investigation, sampling and destructive and non-destructive testing of the steel columns, girders and concrete walls. ARE also undertook structural calculations to check the structural adequacy of the fire damaged structural elements, and the temporary structural strengthening works undertaken by HADEED. The initial recommendations for the remedial works were given within 12 hrs following the investigation, and the final recommendations were given after undertaking detailed calculations within a month after the site activities.

    164 Condition Assessment of Villas in Al-Nakheel Housing Compound

    “ARE” were appointed for the investigation and assessment of all the reinforced concrete buildings of the housing compound. The construction of these villas was stopped midway around 20 years back and since then they were exposed to an extreme environment. The deterioration of the reinforced concrete elements was investigated and remedial measures recommended to the Client. Detailed repair drawings and tender documents were also prepared.

    165 Restoration of Fire Protection System at Jeddah Islamic Port, Yanbu Industrial Port, Dammam Commercial Port and Dhuba Port

    166 Redesign of Concrete Structures in Shoaibah Desalination Plant (Phase I)

    167 Rehabilitation of Concrete Structures in Eight Desalination Plants

    “ARE” were appointed for the investigation and assessment of reinforced concrete structures in eight SWCC Desalination Plants lying on the western seaboard of Saudi Arabia along the shores of the Red Sea at Al-Birk, Al-Wajh, Rabigh, Ummluj, Dhuba, Haql, Shuqaiq and Jeddah (Phases 2, 3 and 4).

    170 Rehabilitation of Jetty Piles and Deck Slab

    171 Investigation and Structural Assessment of Exchange Building

    The Saudi Telecom Company appointed “ARE” to investigate the TCC Exchange Building in Dammam City, comprising a basement, ground floor and four upper floors. ARE’s scope of services included a comprehensive condition survey, site sampling and laboratory testing, a structural assessment of the structure, as well as the detailed rehabilitation design and the preparation of all tender documents.

    172 Design of New College of Medicine – 3 Buildings

    King Faisal University appointed “ARE” to provide their professional design services for the College of Medicine at King Faisal University at Al-Ahssa.

    The project consists of three buildings, connected to each other by a covered and air-conditioned elevated bridge corridor. Two buildings, one for male and female students respectively, accommodate classrooms and offices, whereas the main building hosts laboratories, dissection rooms, a number of auditoriums and other services utilised by both male and female students.

    The Royal Saudi Navy appointed “ARE” to carry out the investigation, assessment, recommendations, and detailed design check, under water survey, structural analysis, rehabilitation design, and tender documents for the restoration of the Ship Repair Facilities (SRF) at KFNB in Jeddah.

    The Scope of Works involved visual inspection above and under water, site sampling & testing, assessment of & recommendations for the rehabilitation works. Apart from concrete elements (piles, pile caps, beams, pre-stressed deck slabs, etc.), all utilities and M & E installations were included in the scope, as was the structural analysis of the piers and wharves, the design check for the Synchro Ship Lift.. The job involved experts from our Associate Company, COWI (Denmark) and Synchro Lift (USA).

    175 Redesign of Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium

    “ARE” were appointed by the General Presidency for Youth Welfare (GPYW) to provide their professional services with regard to the investigation of the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah.

    The scope of work included the visual inspection, site sampling and testing for the different reinforced concrete frames and other structures in the stadium. This was followed by a detailed analysis, after which appropriate and cost-effective solutions for the necessary remedial works were formulated. The works also included the preparation of the Detailed Design and Tender Package for the above mentioned remedial works.

    180 Investigation of Shaybah Airport Runway

    Shaybah is located some 1000 Km south-east of Dammam, in the Empty Quarter of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The site provides a base for a recently built Saudi Arabian Oil Company production plant, an administration and residential complex, a small Airport terminal building and airstrip. The runway is a rigid pavement Portland cement concrete slab with a single layer of WWF reinforcement.

    The works included, visual inspection, site sampling and laboratory testing including ‘Impact Echo Method’, ‘Demec Strain Gauge’, ‘Pull-Off’ tests’, Cores, test pits to collect samples of sub-base & sub-grade, and Petro-graphic analysis. The structural integrity of the runway was expressed as the runway’s ability to carry projected traffic.

    The structure is a twelve storey building with basement, ground, mezzanine, service, restaurant floor and typical eight floors. It comprised typical columns, solid slabs at ground, mezzanine, service and restaurant floor, and waffle slabs at the others. The foundation structure comprised mat foundation.

    The work involved detailed visual inspection, sampling and testing to determine the cause and extent of deterioration and also the site supervision of the remedial works carried out to the structures.

    191 Inspection of Fire Damaged Cable Tunnel and Control Building.

    A fire broke out in the main cable duct and control room basement supplying power from the substation to different areas of the plant, causing the plant to shutdown completely.

    “ARE” COWI was invited to investigate the condition of the concrete tunnel structure, immediately. In response ARE mobilised the site investigation team and undertook a visual investigation, sampling and non-destructive testing of the walls and roof of the tunnel. ARE recommended remedial works to be carried out which involved re-skinning using shotcrete. The initial recommendations for the remedial works were given within 8 hrs following the investigation and accordingly the repairs were done within 4 days.

    192 Appraisal of Billet Bay Crane Gantry and Adjacent Structures

    “ARE” COWI was appointed to investigate the existing billet bay crane gantry, during the unscheduled shutdown period. The elements inspected were columns, beams supporting crane rails, rail and exposed foundation.

    The work involved visual inspection, dynamic assessment of the beams supporting the rails, die penetration testing of certain welds and static alignment survey. Calculations were also carried out to assess the adequacy of the structure according to the DIN standards. Following the investigation we prepared a report giving recommendations on how to prolong the life of the structure.

    193 Rehabilitation of Seawater Distribution Structures

    SADAF appointed “ARE” COWI to carry out investigation, assessment, recommendations and preparation of contract documents for remedial works on certain seawater structures inside the plant. The structures comprised pump basins, dividing walls and supporting slabs. The work involved visual inspection, sampling and testing to determine the cause and extent of deterioration.

    In connection with the contract documents, “ARE” COWI prepared the complete tender package, including drawings, specifications, scope of work and bill of quantities. The work also involved extensive design of temporary supports and cofferdams. “ARE” in Association with COWI also performed the site supervision of the remedial works carried out to the structures.

    194 Rehabilitation of Melt Shop Foundations

    During an unscheduled shutdown of the steel plant, HADEED appointed “ARE” COWI to investigate the condition of concrete foundations & supporting walls for the furnaces (approx. 700 tonnes) and continuous casters.

    The time frame given for investigation was only a week in order to carry out the remedial works during the shut down period. This required immediate response from the investigation team and good co-operation from the testing laboratory to arrive at our conclusions within the time frame. The investigation teams worked continuously for 24 hours to visually inspect the relevant areas and take samples.

    A complete tender package was issued by “ARE” COWI within the time frame, after which HADEED appointed a Contractor to carry out the remedial works, which involved re-skinning using hydro-jetting and using micro concrete to re-establish the concrete cover to all the relevant structures. The emergency situation required the contractor to work on site for 24 hours daily, during which “ARE” COWI was also involved in supervising the remedial works.

    The building comprised of showroom and offices with training facilities. ARE was also appointed by Grundfos to perform the supervision for the remedial works executed.

    196 Production of New Standard Concrete Specifications for SWCC Projects in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

    “ARE” COWI was appointed by SWCC to prepare standard concrete specifications to be used in all new SWCC projects in Saudi Arabia. An extensive survey of existing resources of materials was carried out, including ready mix plants to prepare the specification, which could be implemented with best possible results. The specifications were mainly based upon the study local conditions. Durability experts from COWI Denmark and Local expertise were involved in this project.

    201 Appraisal of Fire Damaged Glass Factory

    “ARE” COWI was invited to do the inspection and structural assessment on behalf of the insurers, to salvage parts of a 50,000 m2 factory building damaged by fire. The task involved extensive site investigation of structural steel and concrete elements. A large number of pull out tests were performed on this project.

    Following the inspections and investigations design of temporary supports, specifications for the wreckage removal procedures and supervision of the support works was carried out. Technical assistance was also given to the insurers for the reconstruction contract.

    The project comprised the inspection of a large stadium comprising a three-storey structure including a large cantilever roof (~ 25 m wide), above the spectators arena. “ARE” COWI was invited to do the damage assessment of the stadium.     “ARE” COWI was invited to do the investigation, assessment and diagnosis for deteriorating concrete structures of certain concrete structures in Al-Khobar Desalination Plant.

    The structures inspected were the intakes, collection basins, pump houses, Chlorination building, sea walls, Gantry Crane, siphon basins and channels. The work involved extensive sampling and testing. “ARE” COWI after investigation prepared the recommendation report and also the tender documents for repairs of the structures.

    212 Construction of Tunnel at a Road Intersection in Al-Hassa City (King Abdullah x King Fahd Road), Site Supervision

    The Municipality of Al-Hassa appointed “ARE” to provide project management services for the supervision of the construction of the above-mentioned facilities. The works mainly involve monitoring whether the execution on site is undertaken as per the project contract documents. The activities include preparation of monthly reports, conduct regular meetings, inspection of all activities on site, approval of materials, etc. The works also include all disciplines viz. civil, architectural, landscaping, plumbing, sanitary, roads, electrical utilities, etc.
