| 194 | Rehabilitation of Melt Shop Foundations During an unscheduled shutdown of the steel plant, HADEED appointed “ARE” COWI to investigate the condition of concrete foundations & supporting walls for the furnaces (approx. 700 tonnes) and continuous casters. The time frame given for investigation was only a week in order to carry out the remedial works during the shut down period. This required immediate response from the investigation team and good co-operation from the testing laboratory to arrive at our conclusions within the time frame. The investigation teams worked continuously for 24 hours to visually inspect the relevant areas and take samples. A complete tender package was issued by “ARE” COWI within the time frame, after which HADEED appointed a Contractor to carry out the remedial works, which involved re-skinning using hydro-jetting and using micro concrete to re-establish the concrete cover to all the relevant structures. The emergency situation required the contractor to work on site for 24 hours daily, during which “ARE” COWI was also involved in supervising the remedial works. |

Following the inspections and investigations design of temporary supports, specifications for the wreckage removal procedures and supervision of the support works was carried out.
